I guess I shouldn't have said the only explanation that makes sense, but the one that makes the most sense. Keep in mind I am not familiar with the expanded universe and have only scratched the surface of Rebels.
I'm going on her connection to the light sabre, the awakening of R2D2 when she arrives, the connection between her and Leia (Rey isn't a Solo since Han and Leia would have mentioned a 2nd child), and her knowing that her family is not coming back to get her (makes sense if Luke has isolated himself on a far away world).
I suppose she could be a Kenobi or a descendant of Ezra or Kanan from Rebels, but aren't the episodic movies supposed to follow the Skywalkers? Just like episodes 4-6 had a Skywalker as both the protagonist and antagonist I'm guessing 7-9 will have the same.
Maybe this is all a red herring though and we are in for a good twist.
