Would you consider the following?
A 6-10 foot cable + USB wall port hub. Total cost probably $30 ish on Amazon, you'd receive it within a week probably (Amazon basics or Anker are good brands, but ratings help too). Gives flexibility to use ipad further away from an outlet.

$22 ish for wall outlet and 2 lightning cable charging for 10 feet away? Overkill? Absolutely!
Awesome? I personally think so.
You might still want to buy a crappy set you're not sad to lose when you go traveling though.
But yeah, see if someone has a set for $5-10 they'd get rid of for cheap (unfortunately I don't have) works too. Some may not have used their new ones if they upgraded an iphone or bought a tablet to go with a phone etc. Be aware of knockoffs though. Look nearly perfect to the ones that ship with Apple products.
