I don't think it's an over payment at all. I like Backlund, but this is his first 20 goal season. He's on a good contract if he can maintain that scoring pace, but Hamonic is a top 4 who can step into the top 2 anyday. He's also a rare style (RD shut down). Wotherspoon could be a LD-lite version, but no guarantees Wotherspoon will secure himself a position. To them Wideman at 50% retained is a right handed replacement on their blueline, but he's a pending free agent.
I doubt the Islanders would accept that anyways. Would you accept Lee + Mayfield + 33 year old Zidlicky for Dougie Hamilton?
