No money retained i see a trade more like Wideman ($0 retained) for Lupul ($1.5 million retained). Or maybe Wideman and Raymond for Lupul straight up.
Wideman's last year is not only a bad cap hit for a bottom pairing d-man that can play on the PP, but he is also owed more money than cap hit. I believe his real pay out is $6 million.

Honestly, if the Flames can't trade Wideman for just picks anywhere, then a trade like that sort is fine with me. Transfer his cap dollars to a position of need, either goaltending or a RW. Not really interested in Lupul though, as he's got an extra year left on his deal. I'd be fine with Wideman for Michalek though. He's a left shot, but he can play RW. He's also got good size and speed, and him being injury prone is no problem either, as all that would do is open up some more ice time for Pribyl, Shinkaruk, Poirier or (if it please the hockey gods) Laine, Puljujarvi, Dubois, etc.....
Also could be a good Czech mentor maybe for Pribyl, if the rumor of him signing with the Flames is true.
Wideman ($5,250,000 UFA) to TOR for Michalek ($4,000,000)
Raymond bought out
Smid on LTIR to start
1. Gaudreau (7.500) - Monahan (6.000) - Michalek (4.000)
2. Colborne (2.500) - Backlund (3.575) - D. Pribyl (0.925)
3. M Stajan (3.125) - S Bennett (0.925) - M Frolik (4.300)
4. L Bouma (2.200) - Hamilton (0.800) - M Ferland (0.825)
Extra - Bollig (1.250) - Hathaway (0.690)
1. Giordano (6.750) - Hamilton (5.750)
2. TJ Brodie (4.650) - Engelland (2.916)
3. Jokipakka (0.900) - Nakladal (1.000)
Extra - Wotherspoon (0.950)
1. Reimer (4.500)
2. J Ortio (0.800)
$70.5 million against the cap, including Raymond's buy out and Smid on LTIR.
Hopefully Treliving can pull off more wizardry than that, but it won't be easy with some of the contracts he has to deal with. Luckily most of those are done after next season.
This team would/should have better goaltending, more size/speed and the young core is hopefully one more year better than last season. I could see it battling for 3rd seed in the Pacific and/or a Wild Card spot. I'm sure some would disagree though.
