Well that, but also that the companies are both using their participation in the sport as a form of advertisement. The more extreme of these (and the reason for my original comment) is red bull, whose product has nothing more to do with the sport than its money and its product being used to allow fans to stay up and watch its races in all hours of the night.
At least Ferrari makes the car they are racing, but red bull has taken sponsorship to the scary future where they are even naming the teams after sponsors (also look and MLS NY red bulls).
