Trudeau is getting some heat today for skipping the emergency debate on the Attawapiskat suicide rate to attend a book launch. I have to agree that the optics are pretty bad for a guy who campaigned so hard on his commitment to aboriginals.

Reading into it where I can find it, it wasn't just Justin, it sounds like most of his senior Cabinet members bailed on the debate to go to this event.

Trudeau, his senior advisors, and members of cabinet attended a former Liberal’s book launch Tuesday night at Beckta, a high-end restaurant a few blocks from Parliament.

DP MP Charlie Angus, who requested the emergency debate in response to the suicide crisis in Attawapiskat First Nation, said it is “unfortunate” that Trudeau — also minister of youth — “decided to attend a Liberal book launch instead.”
