I am not dismissing the urgency to acquire a solid goaltender this summer. I am simply not at all convinced that a deal would require the movement of Backjlund in a trade, nor should it. The Flames need him right now, and probably for the next two or three years.

I think 9th pick is very good value for Backlund. The 9th pick got Schneider. If Schneider was on the Flames this past year vs. Backlund, I suspect they would have a much better record.
I know that's an imperfect analysis but the original question was about the return for goalies. Schneider fetched a high first round pick. Jones fetched a first and a prospect. Miller fetched a first at the deadline.
Backlund is important to this team but if you can trade your 3rd line center for a franchise goalie and fill your biggest need it's kind of a no brainer isn't it?
