I keep going back to the cloaked figure and the device he's kneeling to. The common thought is that the tank holds the emperor. However. I have an alternative theory.

In ANH we don't see Vader using the meditation chamber, that isn't shown until ESB. What if Vader who is still healing and can't survive outside of his suit unless he's in that meditation sphere is actually in that tube.

We know that he oversaw and was involved in the construction of the Death Star. Its also logical to assume that Vader might have Imperial Guards at his disposal.

the kneeling figure is an interesting debate.

I doubt that its an inquisitor. Filoni has indicated that the Inquisitors are pretty much done at this point, and won't be needed in the future because there are no jedi to hunt.

I had another theory that it could be Snoke, it could be an interesting lashup to the future movies, and Snoke in TFA novel seems to be very connected to Vader.

I had a third series that we know that at this moment that Darth Maul is on the loose. When Palpatine crushed him at the end of TCW's he still had some use for him. Then I thought back to the meeting between Tarkin and Vader, where Tarkin indicated that Vader was the last of that old religion.

So then I thought, what if this wasn't even located on the Death Star, what if that scene takes place on Coruscant, and it is the Emperor, and this scene takes place near the end of the movie.

What if this is one of the Emperors spies or Sinister Agents and not a main villain, and he or she is informing the Emperor that he suspects that Princess Leia has the plans. Which then sparks the events of ANH right at the end of the film where we see Vader on the bridge of the Avenger receiving a communication from the Emperor and setting course to intercept the Tantive IV
