Ugggghhh.
The passage that Jesse Duplantes "received" from God is Amos 6:1, and I'm honestly flummoxed how he managed to so badly misunderstand what he was reading:
Quote:
6:1 "Woe to those who are at ease in Zion! And to those who set their confidence in the mountain of Samaria! To the most important of the leaders from among the surrounding nations! To whom the House of Israel approaches!
2. "Venture to Calneh and see! Walk from there to Ḥamat-Rabah, then go down to Gath of the Philistines: Who is doing well from among these kingdoms? Is their territory larger than yours?
...

* The answer to these questions? The cities of Ḥamat-Rabah and Gath had been sacked and deserted by the time of Amos's oracle. Clearly, this is a rhetorical irony.
Quote:
...
3. "Yet you put off the Day of Evil, and convene a session of corrupt violence!
4. "Those who recline on ivory beds and lounge on their couches, gorging themselves on lambs from the flock and cattle from the stalls!
5. "Those who ignorantly improvise the sound of a tune—as if like David they account themselves to be instruments of song!
6. "Those who drink from craters of wine, and lather themselves with the finest oil—yet are not sickened by the destruction of Joseph!
7. "Assuredly, right soon they shall be the first of those to be banished in exile; no longer shall they lounge in excess!"

The message here is quite literally the exact opposite of the point Duplantes was attempting to make.
If there was ever any doubt that these tyrants hear only what they want, this should just about settle it.
