I'd say the circumstances of the case matter, and it's certainly pretty weird to buy real estate on Kijiji, but the notion that the way people "usually do it" somehow makes Kijiji purchases the exception to contract law is silly. Feel free to link me to the decision, but what you've posted there is just wrong as a general statement, so I'd have to assume there are some facts in that case that indicate that there was no acceptance of the offer.

What I'm referring to is the typical Kijiji case - I see your ad for an iPhone. "New in box", it says. You're asking $600. I text you, say I'll give you $500. You say, "sure, I'm a 1000 ABC Street, you can pick it up at 7". At that point we have a binding contract. If at 6:30 I'm on my way down to you (because this is Kijiji so you inevitably live somewhere vaguely proximate to Narnia) you text and say, "sorry, someone else came and got it", or "someone just offered me $550, so unless you're willing to pay that I'm selling it to them", you've breached a contract. Full stop. As I keep pointing out, this is more just an annoyance than anything, but technically and legally, it's the case.
