I'm not worried about our 1st rounder. The top 12-14 are heads above the rest, so we are going to get a quality pick with our pick. I'm looking at the Dallas 1st/2nd, as well as Florida and our 2nd.
We need to strike some depth gold with our mid round picks. Do we chance a pick on Carter Hart if he drops to our 2nd? If we get Dallas' 1st, do we take him then? He is an outstanding junior goalie, but isn't big by any stretch of the imagination. If he fell to our 2nd I'd take a stab at him, but otherwise I'd like to grab Griffen Outhouse with a 6th or 7th.
Carter Hart 6'1 170lbs
63gp 2.14 GAA 0.918s%
Griffen Outhouse 5'11 175lbs
27gp 1.82 GAA 0.938s%
They are the top 2 tenders in the WHL this season.
I'd also like to walk away with some size and skill in our forward group.
Tage Thompson out of UConn has 14g 32pts in 36gp. 6'5 and 185lbs with room to bloom
Brett Murray out of the CCHL has 14g 46pts in 48gp. 6'4.5 and 196lbs. Still room to fill out.
Logan Brown of the Windsor Spitfires has 21g and 74pts in 59gp. At 6'6 and 218lbs with room for growth, he could be a very intimidating player.
Tim Gettinger out of Sault Ste. Marie has 17g and 39pts in 60gp. At 6'5.5 and 203lbs he could be a physical force as well.
I understand that Brown could very well be gone by Dallas' 1st rounder, as that combination of size and skill is highly sought after. One or two of these guys will be available to us throughout the 2nd or 3rd round, and I don't think it would hurt to pick one up. Especially Tage Thompson.
