That's the thing. It's a standard Entry-Level Contract.
Assuming the Preds offered him the maximum amounts for salary and bonuses (which they almost certainly did), no one can offer him more money. If they offered him a top-6 spot on a playoff-bound team, no one can realistically offer him a better role either.
Also, if he signs now, he'll be up for renewal in a year, and if he's an established NHLer at that point, he'll be making a lot more than the rookie max.
For a guy who went to Harvard, he doesn't seem to be making the smart decision.
