Every time I get a chance to see Jankowski, I come away fairly impressed. I thought he controlled the PP very well in the last game, and I was even more impressed with how he came back on defence and seemed to just be in the right place at the right time.

Now, I am not sure if he will become "Joel Otto" - Otto was a heck of a lot more tenacious. I don't agree that he will become Colborne either though - Jankowski's IQ seems a few steps higher and he just anticipates so well.

I am of the opinion that if you put Jankowski with one or two skilled wingers, he can create a lot with his passing and vision. Kid is a very, very good playmaker, and I think most of you will be surprised by how good.

Looking at the Flames, and seeing Backlund really stepping up again and becoming that hugely dependable 3rd line center with his non-stop motor, I think Jankowski eventually settles-in on one of the scoring lines as a winger. Maybe LW on Bennett's line, or RW on the Gaudreau/Monahan line.

Kid has wheels too, and can keep up to them. He is a bit like Jagr - he is big, so it looks like he isn't moving since his strides are so long, but he moves extremely well. Best to compare his speed to other players on the ice, rather than looking at his strides. Big guys sometimes look really slow, but seem to just get there faster. That's Jankowski. He also uses his reach and anticipation to just get in the way, and he can pass/shoot around guys.

I still think he signs with the Flames. Of course he wants to play in the NHL right away - every kid wants that, and Jankowski has done everything asked of him to this point. He can also point out all the other players that the Flames have signed - players that the Flames didn't invest too much in as well - and just pressure them to make it happen. Heck, I would if I was him. At this point, he does have all the control.

I think the Flames would have to get really lucky on their 2nd round pick in order to find someone better than him, plus would need to wait a few more years on top of that. I would be surprised if Jankowski refuses to sign with the Flames - but if he does, it will still be interesting to see how he does in the NHL. I still think he will be a very good player in the long run.
