It has already been confirmed that Jankowski was injured last night. He missed most of the 1st OT, then was announced wouldn't be returning to the game for the 2nd. Lambert is a hack.

Yes they can sign him to a contract that starts next season, but so can every other team on August 15. He has the leverage that other teams will sign him.
The Flames have set a precedent in burning years off ELCs off college prospects. Gaudreau, Arnold, Agostino, Hanowski, Gilies, Van Brabant all have had their 1st year of their ELCs burned in the past 3 years.
Burning a year off is not necessarily a bad thing either even for marginal prospects. Ends their contract sooner and enables the organization to move on if they want to and frees up a contract spot for someone else.
