Team improves as Gaudreau, Monahan, Bennett, Hamilton, Brodie, Ferland, new draft pick maybe improve and hopefully better goaltending occurs.
But, to your point, there is no room to add a piece to improve beyond the above, but doing things like buying out people that do force us to spread out cap hit just so we can make a move next year isn't worth it. Next year likely isn't our year (cup wise) anyway. Have to remember the Flames should be planning to be in the best possible position when our young core starts to peak. That's not next year, and rushing to get rid of bad contracts that are going to expire in two years or less is not needed, unless a deal or player we see as being the long term solution we really need becomes available next year and we just can't pass it up.
