Raymond is negative value. You save cap in the short term by buying him out (which calgary will need to be competitive) and you save a contract/roster spot to give you more flexibility over the course of the summer.

The buyout cap hit of Raymond is just over a million, except it extends his cap hit by one more year. So if the Flames think they can ride out his cap hit next season, they will do that over buying him out. Its only a 2 million cap hit savings. Especially if he helps Stockton make the playoffs.
