I think the fan demands have gotten a little out of control.
You simply cannot constantly kill meaningful well developed characters, as you don't have the time to have more than 10 or so well developed characters.
The show has done a good job of keeping the main cast of 8 or so characters and introducing side characters around them, which move in and out of the series. It's actually not entirely unrealistic either. If you were in a scenario like this (obviously not a realistic one to begin with) there'd be people you meet. Hang around with for a few months, and then they'd die.
My only complaint is that so few of the original Alexandria inhabitants became noteworthy. Aaron is the only one....although Spencer seems to be taking on a larger role. Enid could be around for a while too.
We should also keep in mind that this wasn't the season finale either. If they are going to kill a main character, it'll probably be left for the season finale. With the introduction of so many other characters from different camps with their own personalities, it's likely we'll see some of the main group culled to make room. Aside from Rick and Carl, no one is really safe in the final episode of the season.
