Carol repeatedly ask that Paula to run so she wouldn't have to kill her and it seemed to me like Carol was almost heartbroken to set the fire that killed the saviors at the end.

Call me crazy, and I'm sure everyone will, but I think Carol sacrifices herself to save Morgan at some point. I think she will feel the group will need he moral compass going forward
Not saying I agree with my logic, but that's how I see things playing out
