I'm curious if Gio gets protected if this happens. Thats a hefty cap hit for an older player moving forward. From a strict dollars and cents POV, leaving Gio unprotected could be a big money saver for the Flames.

You'd still have Hamilton and Brodie as your D foundation. With a few promising prospects to fill in the voids.
