Re-imaginations are fine as long as the people doing so understand what makes the character great. You can change a characters history/details while preserving the spirit of the character.
Oh I know. For every awesome change or creation, there are five you can cite of just terrible choices.

But imagine where we would be without Harley Quinn. I want those chances taken and changes made.
