I've never really cared about movies changing the status-quo within fandoms. I was one of the few Transformer fans that I interacted with that was excited for Bay's first film and didn't lose my #### at Optimus having flames.

When other mediums stray from the original source you can get some really good ideas. Hell, in some cases you see major changes that just make everything better. I don't like how fandoms immediately freak out and or worry when these changes are seen or announced. Whether I like them or not, you need to wait and see how they play out. Mystique in a leadership role in this movie could work out so well, that it becomes a thing in the source. It could also be a colossal failure and go over like a mein kampf reading at a bar mitzvah. Truthfully, I lean toward the latter but, we may get an explanation that makes it awesome or find out it is something as simple as Xavier mind controlling Mystique at this point in the movie.
