EDIT: I guess he won TUF 5, but he's only fought for a belt twice in 30 fights. Once in the WEC and once the UFC, both LW and both times he lost convincingly.
The dude is tough, and he's fought a ton of tough fighters, but he's 19-10.

BJ Penn is 16-10 is one of the greatest fighters of all time. This isn't boxing where fighters rack up a 49-1 record without competition to pad their stats. Nate isn't even close to BJ's level, no question, but the guy has been fighting in the UFC for 10 years and only ever been finished once.
Records are a very misleading stat if you just think the read all the same.
Rory Macdonald is "only" 9-3 in the UFC, 2 loses to the same guy. TKO'd twice and I think a close decision to Lawler. To beat him you have to go to hell and back, a complete stud. (Condit the other one) His 9-3 record is a lot more amazing then just the numbers 9-3 would look
When you talk about Nate, in the last 5 years he's lost to the champ twice (current Dajos and the champ at the time) Henderson and the No.1 contender in the 185lb division (Rory who is a beast)... oddly enough the other loss was that only time he was finished to a guy no longer in the UFC as he's had a had time climbing that final step and locking down a contract there with wins
love the fight game, but records mean nothing unless you remember the fights that earned them it as they tell a much better perspective of the fighter
