It didn't have to be around anything to do with the actual hit (i.e. keep the refs out of it). All Burke would have had to say was the length of time it took this process was ridiculous, chewing up 19 game of the schedule, to come to a conclusion. That was WAY too long and both Wideman and the Flames are the people coming out of the process as "losers" even though the arbitrator essentially ruled in favour of Wideman.
I don't think anyone could have argued with those comments, and it would have given the organization a little more backbone. It just seems like we did the puppy tail between the legs move and didn't really stand up for ourselves.

Publicly eviscerating the league would have gotten them nowhere, it would have just got their back up. I have no doubt Burke is back channeling the hell out of this, though I doubt we ever see something come of it, officially anyway.
