I thought it ended as well as I could have. There was so much tension in the movie that it was bound to explode out of it. Spoiler just in case:

Given that it was a loose sequel to Cloverfield, aliens/monsters were to be expected. It was good that they kept it to the very end, and not at all the focus of the movie.

Anyway I thought the movie was great, and the writing was pretty smart with everything tying up at the end abd various parts of the movie being called back throughout the movie.
