Well with Murray-Jones right now you've basically got a ready made pairing. Those guys are playing like a top pairing right now in CBJ. I haven't been the biggest Murray fan but its hard not to acknowledge how good that Murray-Jones pairing looks right now.

Hamilton is going to be a great player but he does not look like a top pairing d-man to me yet. So IMO Hamilton has the higher upside (which I guess is why I think some people are shocked) but I think Murray is the more developed player who's closer to having hit his ceiling. I mean they aren't saying they would take Hamilton over Murray if you were starting a new expansion team or something, this is just for one off tournament in half a year so Hamilton having a higher upside isn't relevant to the decision.

Rielly meanwhile is also playing right now as a top pairing d-man which Hamilton is not doing. I think both players have similar upsides but I think Rielly has put it all together this season and really stepped his game forward. Hamilton I think will put it all together in the next couple seasons and you see flashes of it all the time.

Anyways, that's my thoughts on that decision. Hamilton is a good young d-man with the potential to be a great young d-man. I think Murray, Jones, and Rielly have just developed slightly faster. Big d-men often take a bit longer to put it all together. I don't think it's a big slight on Hamilton.
