Funny, I remember the 4 digit dialing as well - it was great - I guess we still sort of have that now at businesses.

The biggest problem I had when Vancouver when to ten digit dialing was remember NOT to put the 1 in front.

Anyway, people don't like change and would rather complain about it, rather than just getting it done. The only constant in life is change - getting your head around the change, getting past it, or better still figuring out how it is better is a whole lot better than pouting.
