What does it mean for Poirier? It means the 23 year old Agostino is more fully developed than the 21 year old Poirier. Which shouldn't be very surprising. Still lots of time left for Poirier to develop and according to interviews with the coaches his game has been developing this year despite not having amazing numbers. Coach Huska has said Poirier is using to learn his speed more effectively by blowing past defenders to the outside instead of trying to bowl through multiple defenders.

People need to be patient with the young prospects. I know Poirier is a 1st rounder so some people think they should step in sooner but a guy like Backlund was also a late 1st rounder and didn't start having NHL success til what, 23/24? The majority of prospects take a few years in the minors. Still very early for Poirier, Shinkaruk and Klimchuk and no reason to be super worried about any of them at this point IMO.

Agostino, Hamilton, Hathaway and Grant have had really good seasons so they are the most obvious first call ups (except Grant is still injured.)
