I bought a bottle of the stuff for my 12 year old for Christmas. It was a little less pricey at the time IIRC.
He test sprayed a small shot in the house. I think I still smell it.
He and his friends brought to their first ever school dance and apparently sprayed in the girls bathroom.
OP is right. You would not think such a smell is possible.
