Russia is bad for doping but since she became a huge tennis star she's pretty much been American for all intents and purposes. I think she lives in Florida and an article I read mentioned her main doctor is American.
She could be lying but the fact she was open about this medication being prescribed to her and being no issue for 10 years makes me think she's being honest. Even if she's lying and she did know that it got added in January but kept taking it, that still shows how finicky the doping standards are becoming. It's not like this is a cutting edge steroid that they just discovered a test for. Clara Hughes got dinged for taking ephedrine. That's like the most easily accessible, over the counter sinus medication. I take it all the time when I feel a slight sniffle coming on.
I guess my point is less, "Oh these poor athletes" and more, "Doping standards are getting silly."
