Mangiapane's projection-project comparables (based on Draft year 2013-2014 / Draft+1 2014-2015) statistically are not dime-a-dozen overagers. They're drafted players like Matthieu Perrault, Mike Cammalleri, Jason Zucker, Tobias Rieder, Bo Horvat, Sasha Barkov, Anthony Duclair, Antoine Vermette, and Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau. Statistically speaking he's got a 54% likelyhood of being an NHLer. I'll take those odds any day.

I like him because he's got a high motor though. I'm under no illusion that he'll be a big time scorer in the NHL, but he has enough speed, skill, intelligency and tenacity to make it as a 3rd liner. Tod Button compared him to Andrew Cogliano... I'd be very happy with that outcome.

I watch Travis Konecny and Mangiapane and do not see a big difference in the quality of play. Those who mention Byron are actually spot on. He has all the intensity and passion Byron had, just a better finisher.

My NHL projection would be somewhere in the middle of a Paul Byron and Tyler Ennis.

It also doesn't hurt that he's quite a bit bigger than both of those guys already at 19.
