back when i was in high school and still living at home, we had a family of skunks move in under our front steps

my dad waited until late at night (skunks would be asleep) and dug out a larger area at the access hole. he put a pipe in the hole and then put in chicken wire and 'back-filled' the hole (for lack of a better term). then attached the pipe to the exhaust pipe on his vehicle. started up the van and waited. you could hear the skunks trying to get out, but the chicken wire kept them under the stairs. eventually it got quiet and my dad got them out and took them up a logging road

i don't think a skunk will spray in it's 'house' (or whatever it's called... den maybe?)... but don't quote me on that
