For sure. He was "playing the game the way it was meant to be played!" and became a legend doing it.

He'd be suspended for most of those hits now, back then he didn't even get a penalty. And "back then" isn't even all that long ago.

I watched a lot of that stuff live, and cheered out loud. I wasn't even a Devils fan! I loved Scott Stevens though, even as a little kid.

I cringe seeing some of those hits now though. There is a pretty clear intent to injure going on there in some of those. That hit on Kariya was the most blatant blindside ever. The only crazier thing than the hit was that he came back and scored the winning goal.

Agreed, and one thing the NHL has going for it is that there aren't many "old time hockey" people left (and I'm, unfortunately, probably old enough to be considered one).

Now that the consequences of a concussion are pretty much common knowledge, they'll be able to tweak the rules without pissing off the "base" and maybe attract new fans at the same time.

There aren't many people who want to see some 22-year-old kid get a brain injury, now that we know that's what he's getting, even if it does mean that NHL hockey has to change.

Anyway, bla bla bla... these stories about enforcers suffering the consequences are depressing as hell.

Also, whoever designed the page on which Peluso's story is plastered should probably get their heads checked. What a mess!
