I think CNN is confusing the 747-800 and -400 series. The new 800 series does not have the usual angled winglet, but instead utilizes the raked wingtip seen in the 777-200LR and 777-300 series. Of course passenger versions of the 800 will always be quite rare, off the top of my head I only believe Korean, Air China, and Lufthansa have them. Cargo versions are more plentiful, and YYC sees them regularly from Cargolux. Worth nothing that the freighter version of the 747 does not have the elongated upper deck, but features the shorter one much more similar to the original 747-100/200.
Also the A380 wingtips are actually referred to as wing fences.
