Since the start of February, the Flames have had more PP in a game 6 times, fewer PP in a game 6 times, and an equal number of PP chances 4 times. From that POV, it doesn't seem that the refs are taking out anything on the Flames because of Wideman. On the other hand, the Flames have been shorthanded at least 5 times in a game in 7 games this season -- 5 of those games have been since February 1.
What's really odd is that the refs in Buffalo are both relatively low on the list of all NHL refs for the number of power plays they give out per game.

Thank you for this post. I was thinking about this last night too and trying to determine the best way to look at it objectively. In that vein, do you have the data broken out as a rolling 5 (or x) game average for penalty calls against?
