If Ortio doesn't fit into the overall plans and walks at the end of the season, that will be a significant black mark on the Flames and their development framework. Treliving, Hartley and Sigalet need to do better -- especially Sigalet. if he cant do it let's find someone else who can.
Ortio is only 24-years-old, which is still quite young for a NHL goalie. I don't know that anything has gone disastrously wrong, I tend to think rather that he has hit a snag in his development. He still has a fair bit of time to find NHL success.

As for Sigalet and the Flames, this is a 6th round pick we are talking about. For him to have played as many games as he has in the NHL already is arguably a pretty good sign of successful development. It does not sound like he is in the Flames' plans moving forward, and if this is indeed the case, then I would expect it is because the coaches are not convinced about his long-term potential. In other words, like well over 90% of sixth-round draft picks, this is yet another player on whom the team took a low-risk chance that didn't pan out. If he is not good enough, then there really isn't anything anyone could have done to change that.
