I thought maybe the J.T. Miller pick might have been to achieve equal balance between US and Canada, but it turns out there are 9 Americans to 7 Canadians so far (not that I don't think JT is worthy, just a name I wasn't very familiar with).

It's a shame that Team USA didn't get first dibs on the young guys, as they'd have have a much better shot in the tourney with JG, Saad, and possibly Larkin, Eichel and/or Couturier. It does seem USA may be trying to build a more traditional 4 line team again as it is, but Saad would have helped with that, and Johnny would be their second biggest gamebreaker after Kane.

The other argument I've heard is that we may be robbing ourselves of a Gretzky-Lemieux kind of moment, but we hopefully we get a chance to vomit at the over-hype of McDavid to Crosby at the next Olympics.

I think Eichel might be the only RH forward on the team? Might give an edge to Scheifele, Strome or Reinhart to make it. So many centres too; can't imagine any benefit in taking RNH over someone like Domi. I think you gotta keep JG and Money together in a short tourney. Do Eichel and Reinhart play together much? Saad and Jenner? Domi and Duclair?

Saad-Mackinnon-McDavid
Gaudreau-Monahan-Eichel
Bennett-Couturier-Larkin
Galchenyuk-JT Miller-Scheifele
Domi, Jenner

Rielly-Ekblad
Trouba-Hamilton
Murray-Jones
Hanifin

Exact opposite problem on D (which may play into Hanifin's favour), as nearly everyone but Murray and Rielly is RH.
