Stealth22 is on the right path... you're prime for Subaru ownership. It'll give you solid off-road capability (not like the Wrangler, but better than most), but with added reliability and quality. It also won't drive like a fat pig on-road, like the Wrangler. They don't have the personality they used to (and personally I find them rather ugly these days), but they are a good option for someone who wants a reliable all-weather solution.
Yeah, I'd think twice on the Tucson, too. I rented one in San Diego last year. That thing was so lame and boring, I couldn't believe they could even sell one.

If you're going to get a crossover, just look at a car. Cars are so much more fun to drive. Crossovers are huge, heavy, have unnecessarily high ground clearance, are pigs on gas, handle like crap, and don't even have that much interior room.

Right now, I keep having to sacrifice the cars I like for what works better as a family car (two kids). If you don't have young kids, get a GTI or something and then you'll be having fun everyday.
