I'm not a fan of the deal. The Flames are getting a 6th for swapping contracts, it's not like they are saving money on the deal at all. The only way this makes sense to me is if they use it as an opportunity to audition Backstrom for a cheap contract (less than 1m) next year.

Also for the the comments/questions about his health. He has not been injured at all this year. Minnesota just moved on after they signed Kuemper and Dubnyk; they literally never gave him a chance this year despite him being healthy. Backstrom while unhappy with being the 3rd stringer in Minnesota has not been a distraction for his team and I think that says a lot about his character.
