How inconsistent Berra is, and what his inconsistencies are (i.e. - can they be corrected) is the question. Did the Flames trade him for a 2nd because the offer was too good to refuse? Or did they feel whatever made him inconsistent was more or less 'un-coachable', and thus they were going to cut bait with him anyways? I guess we will find out if they pick him off the waiver wire or not.
He is a big goalie with amazingly fast legs. That is one thing I remember Clint talking about when he was in the organization - how Berra had amazingly fast legs for a goalie his size. Didn't hear anything else good or bad in terms of specifics, so I have no clue. We all saw him do well at times, and we all saw him playing poorly.
He is signed for next season, but that may not be the end of the world either - it would take more to re-sign Ramo again I would guess, unless the Flames are going to wait until the last hour.
I personally would pass and see who else is available in the off-season. I don't anticipate finding a legitimate starter from the list of names that I have off the top of my head that I remember being available, anyways.

If you believe Burke we got a 2nd because he was not being shopped and that was the lowest he'd let him go for.
I personally would rather not have any of Ortio, Hiller or Ramo back next year and Berra at 1.45m is a solid backup option; especially if we are going to rely on the backup to play 25-35 games. He might give us some stinkers but he will also steal a few, which is not something we can say about any of the goaltenders we have this year.
