That had to be huge from a Gaudreau perspective in being willing to sign, that and he could be super confident he'd be starting in Calgary. Not sure the Flames would be as willing on the contract front with Janko, and we are much deeper at centre with Monny and Bennett that I could understand how Janko might be more motivated to explore options.
Sounds like it's not likely, but I'd had to have that first rounder disappear after all the effort we've but in.

It would be unfortunate yes, but the second round compensation pick would soften the blow significantly. The Grovedweller is a good asset manager. Even then, Mark doesn't strike me as the type of kid who would blow off a team that has taken a real long-term approach with him, going out of their way to let him know he's still in their plans. It's a possibility, but that is always the case with college seniors. I don't think it's worth worrying about to be honest.
