For the Flames, the baseline is that you get a 2nd in 17 if he doesn't sign. So he is worth more than that.

For other teams, he is only worth a 2nd because he could walk.

So why on earth would the Flames trade him for a 2nd? They already have that and they would essentially be giving away his upside for nothing.

IMO, he's worth about a mid to mid-late 1st.

I didn't mean trade him straight up for a 2nd. Rather a package deal where his value is roughly a 2nd and he helps net us a Nichushkin.
