Bottom line is if there is wrong or missing info on the license you have a case, and I would take it to court. If it does say something; failure to read it isn't an excuse.
And I doubt it's a criminal offense. I would thing the officer would have to tell you if you are being charged with a criminal offense.

If you were issued a ticket for a conservation offence, then it would be a provincial statute and not a criminal offence. Just like getting a speeding ticket, open alcohol ticket or any other such offence.
