The only explanation is that he somehow untied himself and completely silently clambered on to the roof of the truck in a matter of seconds. But then, Darryl fingered the guy in the side mirror as they drove away too -- wouldn't he have noticed that he wasn't there anymore?
People complain and nitpick this show a lot in this thread and I let a lot of things slide but that was just way too big of a jump. It didn't make sense at all -- same with them leaving their car at the other farm and both going in the truck. It was clearly not done for any reason that would make sense other than "We need them to do that for the story".

That is what TV and movies are all about, a little bit of wonder, a little bit of magic. "How did he do that?" "How did they survive that?"
Having said that, if you pay attention to the
details of the scene you can infer what happened.
Jesus was
loosely tied up on the
drivers side of the a 5 ton panel truck. He was tied in such a way as to be able to escape his bonds. He is obviously very dexterous and adept at the slight of hand, so I infer he escaped very easily, probably easier than Rick thought.
When Rick and Darryl get into the truck they pi$$ around for a good
30 - 45 seconds before they leave. Rick twirls the keys around on his finger, Darryl gets a few things out of his backpack, fingers the passenger mirror, and yells in Rick's ear.
The mirrors are so
dirty you can't see anything. Even if they were clean Darryl wouldn't be able to see Jesus on the
drivers side from the
passenger mirror. Not to mention he doesn't really look in the mirror he just kind of fingers the mirror in the general direction of the back of the truck.
Jesus strikes me as a pretty smart and wily guy that could probably scramble up that truck pretty quickly and quietly.
They don't notice him until they are bumping around in the farmers field, otherwise I am sure it was a pretty smooth ride on the road.
Seems like a lot of people are so busy looking for BS they miss the explanation in the details.
