I'm not at all bothered about giving up Granlund. Shown the odd flash of offensive ability, but despite being given ample centre time and some decent looks, he's not really shown any upside that makes me want to keep him. With Monahan, Bennett, Backlund and Stajan all here for the next 2 years minimum(plus Janko, Shore, Grant and Arnold in the system), I think Granlund was very expendable. I don't see him doing anything with the Canucks, much in the same way Sven hasn't. Even if he turns into a 40 point, 2nd line forward(which is optimistic), I wouldn't be all that bothered.

As for acquiring Shinkaruk, I'm late to the party so didn't witness the drama at the draft when we took Poirier instead of him. I also haven't seen any of his apparent attitude issues. But I do find it interesting that people want Drouin, who has a terrible attitude, yet aren't as happy with Shinkaruk, who seemingly has fewer attitude issues(he's never demanded a trade or sat out playing in the AHL). Yeah, I know, greater upside with Drouin, etc. But even so, he has a lot to prove and will likely get a great chance at training camp next season to make the roster. I'm pretty excited to see how he gets on in the AHL for the rest of the season.

I'm happy with this trade. Even if we end up losing this trade, it's not a killer of loss and I like that Brad has traded an expendable centre for a player in a position we need. Well done on Brad for this, I like it.
