It takes some adjusting for sure.
Here's my advice:
1. Run Shotgun with a good short/mid range primary (TLW/Doctrine/Hawksaw).
2. Always be moving. Being stationary means you are an easy target.
3. Take unique angles to high traffic areas and choke points. I.E. change your elevation, jump up from a different angle, etc.
4. Prime high traffic areas preemptively with grenades that do area damage (firebolt/arcbolt/lightning etc.). Why do this? If you get the drop on someone, you get a locator as to where they are with the damage, and that will likely win you the fight outright. If you miss, its no big deal. By the time you are in an actual fight, throwing a grenade after being shot a few times likely means you are dead anyways. Pre-throwing gives you the one up on the opponent.
