I wonder how magpies would be perceived if they weren't so freaking common, and thus fall into pest territory. It's true you can tell they're super intelligent for an animal. Interesting watching them when out on nature walks, how they work as a team and communicate with one another. They're really not bad looking birds either, have kind of a cool colour pattern.
But of course the negative is how aggressive they are. When I was growing up we had a bird feeder, the magpies were always scaring away the blue jays and robins that tried to come by which was annoying. I still think they'd be regarded quite differently if they existed in much smaller numbers in urban areas.
