Would you like some dry and bland bread? No, how about some ciabatta? Yeah that sounds delicious!

Okay, I'm going to step up and defend ciabatta. Yeah I like to say it, but I also love to bake it and eat it. Sure, it's not a great general purpose bread. Where it's fantastic is for particularly juicy sandwiches. It's perfect for pulled pork, for example, (has to be cut cross-ways, not in slices) because the airy texture soaks in the sauce, and then the crusty exterior provides structural integrity that few other breads have when faced with really juicy toppings. Also helps if you appreciate a slightly yeasty flavour in your bread. Yeah it's a little dry, but it's not a bread that's meant to be eaten on its own.
For me, bland bread means anything doesn't come from some sort of pre-ferment.
