The philosophy in Stockton seems to be to prepare every player to play a 200ft game, and be able to step onto NHL ice without being a liability. Points are really secondary. As other posters have alluded to, it's only when a player proves that they are defensively responsible that they are being put in a position to succeed offensively.

That is likely why Grant looked so good in his limited minutes in Calgary, and why I really want to see Nakladal with 15+ minutes. The ability of both of these players to adapt to the NHL will be a good indication of what to expect from other graduates from the AHL. When they are ready.

I see it as limiting the rookie learning curve.
