Miller's not great but he does have a .916 this year so he's not horrible either. We're not taking on any extra term, so we can spend Miller's expiring (along with Smid, Engelland, Raymond) on a goalie in 2017. Plus it opens up cap space to bring back Hudler or an alternative (Eriksson / Okposo)
I don't love it, but it does make sense. Kind of...

The problem I keep stumbling on is what we want to do with Ramo. He soured a lot of opinions on his start this year, but I'm perfectly fine with seeing what he will accept for next year.

Problem is, I don't see him signing for less than $3,000,000. That's an expensive backup, and I don't think we're in any position to let him walk and hope that we have something in Ortio and Gillies. I certainly don't see Miller as the answer. Our 2017-2018 situation looks pretty sketchy, and that's right when we'll be paying big money to Bennett on top of the Monahan and Gaudreau contracts getting paid next year.

The long-term effects of letting Ramo walk with Miller eating $6,000,000 could be a lot worse than the short-term of losing Russell (not really that bad...) and looking for a Wideman suitor next year.
