Yeah, that's what I was hearing too. Very bland neo-psychedelic rock in the boring way. Nothing really stood out and I've only been able to listen through twice. The part you're not understanding about it is that bands like that are meant for drug users. Not that I'm advocating it or anything but bands like MGMT are clearly drug fueled and inspired (their name strongly resembles mdmt, a drug used for enhanced listening). The bland psychedelic songs are supposed to be easy on the next level mind if you will, logically it makes sense. Splice together a few more upbeat pop songs with chil out relaxing melodies inbetween.
If you don't have the stuff to get you there it'll probably come off as very confusing or tough to get through. Like going to 3d Imax without glasses.
